The Emperor’s Horses

The aim of this paper is to discuss the presence of horses in the imperial court, their ceremonial role and appearance, as well as their symbolism, drawing evidence from both literary and art sources. The importance of horses in imperial warfare and diplomacy will also be taken under consideration.
